Auto Campers is the Brand name of independent Transit specialist Roy Wood Transits.

Established in 1970 we have a long and enviable reputation for excellent customer service, value and Innovation. Roy Wood (retired) was well known in the 60’s & 70’s on the ¼ mile small ovals as a successful racer and builder of F2 superstox. Plus in his time off from running the business, he found time to fit a GRP high roof to a SWB 1972 Transit and build a caravanette conversion for his family of six!

The company is still family run and continues its engineering heritage with numerous projects over the years such as a mid engine 5.7ltr super Transit, Graffiti removal vehicles, Mobile community support vehicles and many wheelchair accessible conversions. Safety is paramount to us and we are actively involved with Manchester University crash testing and type approval.

Managing Director Steve Wood’s personal interest in camping holidays led to the purchase and sale of several larger motorhomes before the opportunity to work closely with Ford UK, led to us become the importer of iconic Westfalia Campers as well as representing luxury handcrafted converters, Horizons Unlimited.

With the imminent launch of the Transit Custom, the first Auto Campers were built on existing Transit to lay the foundation of what was to come.  Innovative design offered an inside / outside kitchen with sliding fridge and we were the first to work with polypropylene and stainless steel furniture with pricing from only £24,995.

December 2014: Winner of Campervan of the year 2015.

After 10 years in the leisure industry we are delighted to have been presented with such a prestigious award. The judges found the versatility of 8 travel seats and the high quality of modular furniture very Innovative and were surprised at how affordable it is.

Recognising the immediate popularity surrounding Transit Custom, Roy Wood Transits now offer a one stop shop for those seeking a Transit Tourneo or Kombi with just a roof and seat option to then create their own Campers.

With plans well underway to launch a new Leisure Van in Feb 2015.
